Organ Building | Case Design

body

Project Description
This pipe organ was designed and built in 2002 for First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln, Nebraska. The case is built in red oak, with polished zinc pipes.

Design Solution
I was responsible for both the visual design of the organ case, and the design of the internal structure and mechanism of the organ. The organ was designed to be a feature of the room, and the musical life of the church. It was carefully detailed to both integrate with and enhance the space. The internal mechanisms of the organ were designed not only to be functional, but also to be serviceable for the technicians who will care for the instrument over the many decades of its life. I worked closely with the craftsmen who built the organ, and cut many of the intricate features of the case using CNC technology.
